Dear Senator Boxer,

As your constituent, I’m writing to urge you to very seriously consider your actions with regards to SOPA and PIPA and to please vote down these efforts to censor the internet. Your vote and conduct on this matter are being paid great scrutiny by a vast majority of voting citizens – and by thousands more who will be voting soon or may find this issue as the gateway to becoming engaged in citizenship (a privilege otherwise taken for granted or scoffed at with great and often sincere cynicism – and sadly, with good reason). This is a profound opportunity to engage with them, as an elected official who will eventually seek re-election, and more importantly as a civil servant who has been hired to listen.

I’m writing because I urge you to see that this is more than the sort of hot button, chain email, facebook blitz, fad on twitter response to a popular issue, here one day and gone the next – the sort we’ve all grown unfortunately so used to absorbing and forgetting in what has become an endless kicking of the hornet’s nest, sensation cycle.

So for this upcoming vote, for the next ten times this issue is brought forward under another acronym or guise, perhaps less publicized or poorly defended, please remember, the significance of this matter to your constituents, present and future.

Please oppose SOPA and PIPA and other efforts to censor the internet.
